Policy Agenda
Affordable, Reliable Energy
Kansans pay more than the national average and 13% more than our neighbors in Missouri for our electricity. AFP supports efforts to lower costs for ratepayers, including ending any cross-subsidization proposal that forces ratepayers to pay for items such as electric car charging stations. Preventing bad policies such as ROFR and increasing competition and innovation in the marketplace is critical to protect ratepayers.
Americans for Prosperity–Kansas supports energy policies that prioritize affordability, reliability, and domestic production. Rising energy costs—often driven by excessive regulation and mandates—threaten household budgets and economic competitiveness across Kansas. AFP–Kansas advocates for a “pay for what you get” approach that ensures energy sources are cost-effective, consistently available, and environmentally responsible without relying on politically driven subsidies or mandates. This includes recognizing the role of reliable hydrocarbons, supporting infrastructure security, and redefining “green energy” to include low-emission sources like natural gas and nuclear. By promoting transparent pricing, grid stability, and innovation, Kansas can secure its energy future while upholding the principles of limited government, free markets, and economic opportunity.
