Americans for Prosperity – Kansas Celebrates Senate Passage of Constitutional Amendment Change to Judicial Selection Reform
Topeka, KS – Americans for Prosperity – Kansas (AFP-KS) commends the Senate’s passage of SCR 1611, which proposes a constitutional amendment to abolish the Kansas Supreme Court nomination commission and establish the direct election of the Supreme Court justices, fostering accountability and transparency in the judicial selection process.
AFP-KS has been leading the charge to restore transparency and fairness in the judiciary by mobilizing digital and grassroots efforts, and launching votersnotlawyers.com to empower Kansans to contact their state lawmakers and demand action.
AFP-KS State Director, Elizabeth Patton, released the following statement:
“Kansas is one step closer to ensuring our judiciary is elected by the people – not an unelected board of attorneys with no accountability to Kansans. This constitutional amendment is long overdue, and now is the time to bring transparency, accountability, and impartiality to the Kansas Supreme Court.
“At Americans for Prosperity – Kansas, we are proud to champion the movement for judicial selection reform. Being the highest court in Kansas, the Supreme Court makes decisions that impact every citizen of the state. The people, not elitist lawyers, deserve a say in who’s sitting on the bench. We look forward to continuing our work to ensure Kansans have a voice in our judiciary.”
