Topeka, KS—Americans for Prosperity-Kansas (AFP-KS) is applauding HB 2088 becoming law which will set a 60-day deadline for local governments to approve or deny permit applications for single-family homes. AFP-KS said this legislation will be a good first step in affordable housing by allowing housing development permits to be automatically approved if no decision is made within the appropriate timeframe.
AFP-KS highlighted how the legislation is a common-sense reform to streamline permitting, lower housing costs, and strengthen Kansas’s economy. AFP-KS also testified in support of the legislation before committee Members and gathered coalitions in support.
AFP-KS State Director, Elizabeth Patton, made the following statement:
“Economic growth is on a fast track for Kansas, and we’re thrilled to see HB 2088 become law. This week, our legislation was made final so we can begin to take steps forward and deliver for Kansas’s economy with affordable housing solutions and ensuring tax dollars aren’t frivolously wasted in our state. We look forward to seeing this law pay off for hardworking families who need housing relief while spurring a more economically appealing environment for businesses and families alike.”
